Correspondence with Franz Werfel, 1916-1947, n. d.

The item from Werfel is a letter to a professor in Leipzig recommending Olga Pokorny as a singer and praising her talent; all of the remaining items are documents dated from after Werfel's death and contain statements and reminiscences from Olga and her brother Adolf about their relationship with Werfel. Included is a transcript of the deposition given by Olga at her brother's trial in Nuremberg in 1947; it gives family biographical information and refers to her and her brother's contact with Franz Werfel in Prague. The undated items from Pokorny to Lamm contain further reminsces; Pokorny wrote to Lamm under the assumption that he was providing material for a biography of Werfel.

Adolf Pokorny was an Austrian physician who was tried at Nuremberg in the "Doctor's Trial" in 1947, for conducting medical experiments under the Nazi regime; he was acquitted. His sister, Olga Hensel (née Pokorny), testified at the trial on his behalf. During a period of their youth Olga and Adolf Pokorny had lived in Prague and were acquaintances of Franz Werfel.
